Camping Essentials for Your Next Trip
15th December, 2020
Camping is a great way to explore the outdoors with your friends and family. It allows you to unwind, disconnect and enjoy the simple things! Just remember that being in the rugged outdoors with the bare essentials can still be comfortable and convenient with the help of the right equipment.
To help ensure that your next camping trip runs successfully, here’s a list of essentials you should bring with you.
For the campsite
Tents
Arguably the most important item to pack is a tent. Just be sure to confirm your group size so you can pack a tent that will comfortably accommodate everyone who is coming. You will also want to bring a tent that is easy to pitch and pack down, durable to handle all of the elements and spacious enough to accommodate for all parties.
Gas camping stoves
Camping over an open fire sounds amazing but logistically, it’s often difficult and impractical, especially if you haven’t done it before. Some campsites also prohibit campfires. To cook your meals, you’re going to need gas camping stoves.
Cutlery and utensils
Regardless of your camping adventure, you’re likely going to need to pack pots, pans, plates, cutlery and cups. Depending on the types of meals you’re planning to cook, you pack as minimalistic or as complex as you want. Some camping food can be eaten straight out of the package whilst some require plenty of plates for distribution. We recommend you pack something simple just in case.
Camp lights
Keep your campsite safe with effective camping lighting. Outdoor gas lamps, whether Butane or LPG, can be great sources of sufficient light when there’s little to no electricity.
First-aid kits
Every camper needs a first-aid kit. A basic first-aid kit contains the following:
- An assortment of bandages
- Gauze
- Tapes
- Tweezers
- Antihistamine
- Painkillers
- Topical pain-relieving lotion or gel
- Antidiarrheal medication
- Antacid
- Antiseptic wipes
- Triple antibiotic ointment or cream
We find that a useful tip is to pack your first aid equipment into a brightly coloured first-aid box so you can find it easily during emergencies.
For individual campers
Sleeping bag
To make sure you get a good night’s sleep, pack a sleeping bag that can keep you warm and protect you from the elements. If you need extra cushioning and comfort, bring a sleeping mat too. There’s nothing worse than packing a sleeping bag that’s not warm enough, or a sleeping bag that’s a bit too cozy for your trip, so make sure your sleeping bag is suitable for your climate.
Torch
Every camper should have a torch. Choose something lightweight and compact but something powerful enough to still be able to provide sufficient light. It should preferably be easy to grip and activate too, especially during emergencies.
Comfortable clothes
Make sure the clothes you pack are easy to move in and quick dry. Clothes made of polyester are generally reliable for moisture wicking.
- Underwear
- Shirts
- Pants or shorts
- Lightweight jacket for nights
- Boots or shoes suited for trekking
- Socks
- Comfortable sleepwear
- Rainwear for colder weather (Be sure to check the forecasts!)
- Bandanas, caps or hats
